Alexandria is home to the DeKalb County Fair, known affectionately to locals as "The Grandpa Fair of the South". One of the oldest running fairs in the United States, the fair has been offering old-fashioned fun and good-natured competition since 1856.
Although the fair has progressed with the technology age promoting online registration and news links...at the end of the day, there's always a blue ribbon waiting for the best tomatoes, finest cow, and the prettiest beauty queen.
So whether you're out with your friends, on a date with your sweetheart, or having a fun night out with your family...the DeKalb County Fair welcomes you back each and every year as you build your own traditions along with us. Thanks to the Appalachian Center for Craft, hundreds of artists call DeKalb County their home. From award winning pottery, to glass blowing and metal working, many artists offer a sneak peek into their studios during the annual 'Off the Beaten Path Studio Tour'.
The local Farmers Market shows a different kind of talent, as you will find farmers with some of the freshest and most unique produce and wares around. Featuring heirloom tomatoes, organic herbs and wildflowers, baked goods, handmade items, demonstrations, and the best hand pulled barbeque, it's always fresh and friendly at the market!
