Car Registration

New license plates must be obtained by new residents of TN within 30 days. New title & plates are issued through the DeKalb Co. Clerk, Room 205, Courthouse, Smithville, phone 597-5177.

Driver's License

You must obtain a Tennessee driver license within 30 days from the time you establish residency in Tennessee. To obtain a driver license, bring your out of state license to any driver licensing station. If your license is still valid, you may convert it to a Tennessee driver license by passing a vision screening exam and having two acceptable forms of identification. If your license has expired, a written knowledge exam and a driving test will also be required. A driver license can be issued for 3-7 years and fees are pro-rated.
